The Port Harcourt Polo Club was established in 1972 by the Nigerian Army. It was later handed over to civilian management in 1974 and the club is duly recognized as a Polo playing Club by the Nigeria Polo Association.

The Club has, since its inception striven to encourage horse riding, equestrian sporting activities and of course the game of Polo. In this connection, it has been the culture of the club to host an NPA polo tournament yearly. The Club’s Tournament has become a major event in the social and tourism calendar in Port Harcourt and the entire South/South zone of the country.

The club is lucky to have one of the best polo playing fields in the country and is located along Tombia Street, G.R.A. Phase II, Port Harcourt. The Club’s premises a large polo field and practice field, paddocks, stables, lush green lawns, tree lined drive-way and serene club house. It provides a unique environment for relaxation, horse riding and polo playing.

In spite of its meager resources the Club has managed to maintain the high standard of its polo tournament and club facilities and the Club is now renowned for its hospitality during tournaments. In order to improve on its existing facilities, the Club is planning to redevelop its club house, pavilion and stable area to provide more relaxed and fitting environment for its members, guests and visitors.

This will further add to the comfort and enjoyment of polo tournaments. It is the intention to make the Port Harcourt Polo Tournament one of the best in the country with facilities of international standard.
