THE GAME

Polo is perhaps the oldest recorded team sport
known in history. It is termed the “sport of Kings”
others refer to it as the “king of sports”.

 
 

THE PLAYER

What gives polo its appeal to spectators and
players alike is the terrific speed combined with
body contact and dart-like turns of the horses.

You get full access to the Club premises as well as
access to other clubs that we are affiliated with.

 
 

THE FIELD

In other to provide a safe, fast playing surface, the
playing field is carefully maintained with closely
mowed turf.

Welcome to Port Harcourt Polo Club…

Established in 1972 by the Nigerian Army, the club was later handed over to civilian management in 1974 and the club is duly recognized as a Polo playing Club by the Nigeria Polo Association.

The Club has, since its inception striven to encourage horse riding, equestrian sporting activities, and of course the game of Polo. In this connection, it has been the culture of the club to host an NPA polo tournament yearly. The Club’s Tournament has become a major event in the social and tourism calendar in Port Harcourt and the entire South/South zone of the country.

The Port Harcourt International Polo Tournament has been the first major tourism event to usher in the new year in the state. It’s usually held in the first or second week of January every year and brings people from all over the world to the state. Have a glimpse below of how it all looks like.

The Field.

The polo-playing field is 300 yards long by 150 yards wide, an equivalent of nine football fields by approximation. In other to provide a safe, fast playing surface, the playing field is carefully maintained with closely mowed turf. Goals posts are set eight yards apart at each end of the field.
